A complete biological framework for understanding cellular health.
Cellular Health Essentials is a 12-week foundational course that teaches health through the lens of the four biological domains in the SĒCR Framework: Structure, Energy, Communication, and Repair.
Starting with how a healthy cell functions and progressing through how dysfunction develops, the course builds a complete framework you can apply directly to the health patterns you already encounter.
Participants can reason through health from the cellular level.
- Explain how structure, energy, communication, and repair govern cellular function, and how disruptions in each show up as patterns of dysfunction.
- Trace cause-and-effect relationships across biological processes.
- Interpret foundational lab markers as reflections of biological processes, not just numbers to optimize.
- Recognize common patterns of dysfunction across different health presentations.
- Begin applying cellular reasoning to the questions, clients, and health patterns you encounter in your own work.
For people working in and around health, and for curious learners who want a stronger foundation.
CHE is designed for people who want to understand how the body actually works, starting from the ground up, whatever role you bring that understanding to.
Clinic Staff & Support Roles
Build shared cellular literacy so you can field questions and support patients with mechanism-based confidence, even outside your clinical scope.
Health Coaches & Nutritionists
Strengthen your ability to reason through how diet, sleep, and lifestyle influence mitochondrial function and metabolic health.
Personal Trainers
Deepen your understanding of how movement influences cellular energy, signaling, and recovery — with the biology behind it.
Estheticians & Skin Care Professionals
Use a cellular framework for understanding aging, oxidative stress, and repair at the tissue level.
Motivated Individuals
Evaluate health information responsibly, so you can stop reacting to trends and start reasoning from mechanism.
No clinical background required
Genuine curiosity is the only real prerequisite — CHE is not a certification course, and builds the framework from first principles.
CHE is not a certification course and does not provide medical credentialing or clinical training. It is a foundational education course in cellular biology: the reasoning framework, not a license to practice.
CHE is built to layer knowledge sequentially.
Teaching the biology of how each system works before examining how it breaks down — moving through the four domains at the center of the SĒCR Framework, then bringing them together.
Structure Weeks 1–3
Week 1
The Cell as the Unit of Health
Health is the ongoing function of cellular processes. We introduce the four-domain SECR framework and establish how each domain operates in everything the cell does continuously.
Week 2
The Architecture That Makes Everything Possible
Structure and function are inseparable. We trace cellular architecture from the plasma membrane to the organelles within it.
Week 3
When the Architecture Breaks Down
Structural integrity erodes gradually. We examine what happens when membranes lose selective integrity and dysfunction begins.
Energy Weeks 4–5
Week 4
The Currency of Life
The cell runs on ATP. We trace how mitochondria convert fuel sources into usable energy and why that conversion underlies everything else the cell does.
Week 5
When the Manufacturing Process Breaks Down
Metabolism is not a fixed capacity. We explore what happens when energy demands outpace the system's ability to keep up.
Communication Weeks 6–7
Week 6
The Body's Messaging System
Cells do not act in isolation. We trace how cells send, receive, and respond to signals that keep trillions of cells coordinated.
Week 7
When the Signals Get Crossed
Signaling systems are designed to self-correct. We examine what happens when feedback loops lose calibration.
Repair Weeks 8–9
Week 8
The Cell That Cleans Itself
Cellular damage is a normal byproduct of cellular activity. We introduce cleanup and repair systems that keep pace with everyday wear.
Week 9
When the Cleanup System Falls Behind
As metabolic load increases and repair capacity naturally declines, the gap between damage and repair begins to grow.
Synthesis Weeks 10–12
Week 10
Integration: Cross-Domain Synthesis
The four SECR domains are four lenses trained on the same system. We trace how disruption in one domain moves through the others.
Weeks 11-12
Final Synthesis & Application
We close by returning to the case study with the full framework in place and practicing how to apply that reasoning to your own work.
Meet Your Facilitators

Courtney Van Bussum
Lead Facilitator
A biomedical engineer turned healthcare business leader, Courtney is passionate about translating the science of cellular health into practical tools for clinicians and consumers.
Her background includes serving as Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Boulder Longevity Institute, where she helped scale one of the earliest clinical practices focused on longevity and cellular medicine. In 2022 she helped co-found Longevity Launch Labs (affectionately known as “Launch”) where she currently leads operations and strategy. Under her guidance, Launch has become a hub for connecting companies in the cellular and longevity medicine fields with healthcare practitioners, providing services such as strategy consulting, investing, co-development, distribution, and mentorship.

Elizabeth Yurth, MD
Guest Lecturer
Dr. Yurth is the Chief Medical Officer of the Boulder Longevity Institute, which she co-founded in 2006. As a double board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine, she has more than 30 years of clinical experience and continues to stay at the forefront of orthopedics, cellular medicine, regenerative medicine, and the future of aging. Dr. Yurth believes strongly in being both a lifelong educator and a lifelong learner. She speaks extensively at conferences across the country and is a frequent guest on many health-focused podcasts.
